Bruises by Olga Vigil
Created June 2009; Burlington, Ontario, Canada

After receiving little support when she was growing up, Olga was able to heal from her experiences of violence. She talks in her story about her work with the Toronto school system to assist newcomer youth and their families.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
I'm a single mother of a glorious daughter. I am currently working in the social service field assisting newcomer youth and their families.

Why did you choose this story to tell?
I'm hoping that educators will see this and realize that the kids that are having trouble in school may not all be lazy or bad. You never know what their home life is like.

How have you changed as a result of making or telling this story?
I think this has helped me really see how I have progressed over the years.
