Learning From the Work of Others
I sit in a room with others, each working in their own spaces on abolitionism and the rights of transgender people. We are discussing Dean Spade's 'Normal Life.' Afterwards, Fransisco will read from his book, 'Brown Trans Figurations.' We talk about overarching structures - police, re-entry programs, security, education, the non-profit system. We talk about the larger umbrellas and anchor in the on-the-ground actions each of these people are doing.
Doing.
There is a Community Town Hall in two weeks. I am deeply grateful for the work of these people, and grateful to learn how I can show up, learn more, and engage.
