Mi Hermoso Pueblo / My Beautiful Village
People take it for granted, when they’ve always had it, but I spent my whole childhood without electricity.
Only one family had electricity, they also, had a Tv that they turned on from 7 to 10 at night. All of us children crowded onto their patio and watched through the window, then we went home in the dark.
We did our homework by candle light, we cooked over a wood fire, like the majority of people in the community. We also kept animals, and my friends and I loved following the sheep. Sometimes we raced each other up the mountain, to see them, the one who reached the top first, won.
Once the excavations began, things slowly began to change. Around 2009 we finally had electricity in Pueblo Supe, it seemed so magical. Just flip a switch and the whole room would light up.
