Museums are brimming with stories—stories of community, stories of the past and present, and stories of how people see the world and their place in it. Identifying these stories isn’t difficult, but learning to tell them in an engaging and inclusive way can be challenging. This free webinar highlights a myriad of ways that digital storytelling, podcasting, and other story work can add often- unheard voices and perspectives to the larger story, and help attract both old and new audiences into museum or community spaces.

This webinar includes

  • An overview of StoryCenter’s history and digital storytelling methodology

  • An introduction to digital storytelling as a process for combining lived experience, language, and visual treatments

  • A discussion of other StoryCenter work designed to engage specific–often marginalized– individuals and communities

  • Examples of stories created in and for museums and public spaces

  • A discussion about how digital storytelling is being used in museums, both internally, for staff development, and programmatically, to share personal experiences that together tell a larger story about art, history, science, or culture

  • A review of how storytelling can enhance photograph, manuscript, material culture, and digital collections, create exhibit content, and engage communities
